Darksword Sorceress

Hi out there! 

I did a bit of painting. Tried out some new things. Like these paperplants from fredericus rex. I started this tiny Darksword Mini on the second MV workshop in Vienna. Did a bit of sculpting as well, the ruin was done with Milliput. The front side is from the GW "lord of the rings" game. On the backside you can see a bird, a fish and a snail. On top of the Ruins I used gathered moss from the garden. iIbathed it in a mix of 50/50 glycerol and water for about 24 hours. It didn't dry out acompletely, its more like rubber now. Perfect for Airbrushing!

A Sorceress on an adventure, sent out to the Ancient Ruins to find the "The Panax"" the universal Remedy" The Legend says that one drop is enough to cure all sickness. After she filled a little of the juice in her vial, she poured a bit out. Even mice can not resist the smell of the Elixir.

so im waiting up for the next dwarf comission and maybe I prepare for the next showcase project. Hmm maybe the "shaun ram tribe" from Forged Monkey or or again a darksword mini? We will see.

Hello folks,

Catelyn Stark from Darksword Miniatures is finally finished. She is my last entry (the 3rd one) for the Wamp Darksword challenge.

This time I tried to achieve some kind of silk effect on her dress. Really like how the limited palette of colors used worked in the end.

Catelyn Stark, final week

Hi folks,

I realised today that on friday this week there is the deadline for Darksword contest over at Wamp. Tough luck for me, I still need to finish my last entry for it (my 3rd one). This means: painting, painting, painting...

Made some good progress on the sleeves of her dress, but many areas remain unfinished. Lucky for me, her base is already finished so if I concentrate I should be able to finish her till friday.

I´m back with my newest Darksword miniature. Painting her up to fit with the tree base as a druid.

Work has already progressed very far, but I still have to tweak some areas and paint some freehands, afterwards adjust the base to the miniature and put a lot of little animals on there.

Catelyn Stark - Base almost finished

Hi folks,

this time i´m back with an update for the base of my Catelyn Stark from Darksword.

I received a huge package from Polak Models with incredible detailed miniature grass and foliage. So I had to try them out on the base.

Next step will be to paint the miniature, but soo many projects are waiting here, can't say which I´m going to finish first.

Painting a freehand: Laurel wreath

Yesterday I've found some time to continue with details on Melissa (and her immortal Schnauzers). Just a few hours left till completion. Finally...

I have the strong feeling to start something else BUT I have to resist to ever finish her. In the past it was always the same: Starting a project full of motivation. Then, there was a strange feeling to start something else to not get bored or to realize an idea that popped in my mind. But I've promised myself to stop working on different projects at once. And it works! (So far).

Back to Melissa.

To fill the space on her cape I decided to add another simple freehand as an additional nice detail and for practice. There were just two basic freehands that I've painted before. So here's my 3rd one.

Step 1: searching for a draft (use google i.g.)

Step 2: painting a rough sketch.

I've started with a circle to get the correct shape and used a simple trick to not paint it over and over again. I' ve just used a wet brush and draw lines until satisfaction. If its like I like it I've grabbed the other brush with paint on it and simply followed the watered line.

Step 3: Working out details
For this I've used the color recipe Nathelis has shown a while ago over at the brushbrothers forum, just with some tweaks. I'm sure he'll share it on this blog too.

Step 4: Cleaning work and final lights

Sorry, pictures are not the best. Just be patient and wait for final pictures of this project to get a better view.

Catelyn Stark with Base wip

Hi folks,

today I was doing my favourite part about miniature painting: base building. Actually there wasn't a lot to do, since I found a good stone wall that i recently bought from Figone. It fits the mood and style of this miniature perfectly + also really nice the 28mm true scale. So this is the first impression of the miniature and the base together (both with just some color sketches). Now the real work (fun) begins!

I have started to paint a new Darksword Miniature, alltogether there are now 5 hours of work into it and I´m not even done with the skin (yes, I paint slow).

Color recipe for the skintones (all VMC):

Shadows: Mahagoni Brown, Royal Purple, Rose Brown

Midtone: BeigeRed/Iraqui Sand (50/50)
Highlight1: Light Flesh/Beige Red (50/50)
Highlight2: Light Flesh
Highlight3: Ivory
